“Staying Alive”
JULY 15, 2023
This classic BeeGees track was both motto and timing aid for the CPR component of 2 first aid training classes presented by the KCA and organized by the Emergency Preparedness Committee; the three hour sessions were held at the Duckworth Barn. This is also the permanent location for an automated external defibrillator (AED) unit available for the community; the AED unit hangs on a timber column inside and to the left of the entrance door.
Rescue 7 provided training that included segments on situational and patient assessments, when to call 911, choking, clearing and maintaining a patient’s airway, cuts and bleeding and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while using an automated defibrillator. In this segment the rapid beat of “Stayin’ Alive” was used to help participants remember the 100 compressions per minute required for proper CPR technique.
33 people attended the two sessions and there was plenty of positive feedback. More classes could be scheduled in the coming months.
