Hurricane Fiona
SEPTEMBER 24, 2022
In the early hours of Saturday post tropical storm Fiona made landfall over Hart Island in eastern Nova Scotia, along the way shattering records for the deepest low-pressure system ever recorded in Canada. Packing hurricane force winds of up to 148 km/h, the system caused widespread damage to homes and businesses from Halifax eastward. Coastal storm surges, flooding, wind damage and toppled tree related damage is widespread, particularly in Cape Breton which was severely impacted.
While no stranger to superstorms, in this case Kingsburg escaped with little damage and limited power outages. Sevens days later many communities in Cape Breton, New Brunswick, PEI, and Newfoundland remain without power and damage recovery efforts continue.
