20 Bridges Swim
JUNE 25, 2021
Sue McKay, a KCA member, completed the 45.9 km swim around Manhattan. The “20 Bridges Swim” route is a circumnavigation of Manhattan Island, NYC and under its twenty bridges. Sue completed the swim in 7 hours and 56 minutes with a kayaker beside her and a boat following her with an observer, a boat captain and her greatest supporter - her husband Liam Price.
In Sue’s words: “ Water was clean and salty, even in Harlem. Conditions were perfect until the George Washington Bridge. In the Hudson the winds picked up and the chop was absolutely brutal for the last 2.5 hours. I saw my friends cheering for me at 4 different spots which was so incredible. The water was a perfect 70 degrees (not too hot and not too cold). Liam and I had celebratory drinks and food on a rooftop with friends when it was all over and I stayed up until 2 AM. So much adrenaline!”
Last summer you might have seen Sue training in Kingsburg Bay with Liam in the kayak and Ruby as her spotter. The 20 Bridges Swim is a warm up for Sue. She's swimming the English Channel in late September.
