Polar Plunge 2023
JANUARY 01, 2023
The longstanding tradition of a New Years Day Polar Plunge at Hirtle’s Beach continued mid morning, ushering in the coming year.
Only an hour earlier it was pouring rain, but the skies cleared and the fog started to lift. With temperatures hovering around 6°C folks gathered at Hirtle’s Beach in a myriad of swimwear and costumes; with and without their dogs.
With photos out of the way and an impromtu countdown, 25 - 30 brave souls braced themselves and plunged into the chilly waters; some more tentatively than others. The truly brave submerged themselves and no one lingered before rushing back to shore where they were met with towels, warm clothes and hot chocolate. Some onlookers were overhead vowing that next year was the year they would take the plunge - we’ll see!
