Bluenose II Wins Again!
JANUARY 2023
Living in Kingsburg, most of us hold the Bluenose II close to our hearts, as we often see her in Lunenburg or sailing past.
Bluenose II is a replica of the original Bluenose, which was built in 1921 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Under Captain Angus Walters, she became famous as winner of the International Fishermen’s Series of schooner races from that date to 1938. The Bluenose was featured on a Canadian postage stamp in 1928 and on the Canadian dime in 1937, where it can still be seen.
This year, she won again, the Royal Canadian Mint is honoured to have won Coin of the Year Awards in two of the 10 categories in which mints from around the world compete for recognition of excellence in coin design.
The Mint’s first coloured 10-cent circulation coin issued in 2021 to celebrate the 100TH anniversary of Bluenose was crowned “Best Circulation” coin.
