A Visit to Fort Point Museum
July 28, 2025
A pleasant ferry ride across the Lahave River and a short drive to Fort Point Museum opens the door to a collection of artifacts from the Mi’kmaq, to the arrival of Samuel de Champlain centuries later and on to the early 20th Century development of farming and fishing industries. This relatively small building holds a vast array of fascinating and diverse items.
Museum director, Jessie Grigg-Farquhar, is supported by four knowledgeable summer students with interests in archaeology, oceanography, history, film and religion. The staff has excitedly seen an influx in attendance this season and they are all more than willing to provide you with a tour of the museum and give you a glance into centuries of fascination.
Fort Point Museum is plays host to a variety of entertainment and educational sessions throughout the summer. Sitting outside in the sunshine, listening to live music can be transformative. And they sell ice cream.
Fort Point Museum is operated by the Lunenburg County Historical Society and KCA is a community partner–level member of the Society. — Mary St James
