First Annual Kite Day on Hirtles Beach

September 07, 2025
Despite threatening skies, five brave souls headed out the Hirtles Beach for the first annual KCA Kite Day. The wind was perfect and in short order beautiful kites, from mermaids to menacing stingrays could be seen flying high in the sky. At one point the skies did open up but not enough to send the kite flyers indoors, but further into the surf.

The wet weather deterred greater numbers of kite enthusiasts and observers but those in attendance had fun and confirmed kites do fly in the rain.

The Kingsburg Community Association thanks David Peters and Rob Emery, who are members of KCA’s Environment Committee, for organizing the event.

See you all next year! — Susan Spence
